Etihad, Air Berlin see deal saving millions

Etihad Airways and Air Berlin announced plans to pool their Boeing 787 programs, three months after the Abu Dhabi-based carrier raised its stake in Germany's second-biggest airline to almost 30 percent.

Under the agreement, which the airlines said on Tuesday will help save millions of dollars, Etihad and Air Berlin will share infrastructure, pool maintenance and develop joint training programs for the aircraft.  >>More..

US Airways seeking support for its bid for AA

US Airways Group, which is weighing making an offer for American Airlines, learned from its failed 2006 bid for Delta Air Lines that such attempts need to be friendly and have support from labor groups, said Scott Kirby, president of US Airways.

During a New York transportation conference Tuesday, Kirby discussed the lessons from its hostile approach to acquire Delta while it was in bankruptcy. But he declined to comment on Fort Worth-based AMR Corp. or its Chapter 11 case.  >>More..

The Irish government has agreed to sell their struggling airline in order to meet conditions of a bailout deal with its main lenders — the European Union, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund. Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, is licking his chops for another chance to take a run at buying Aer Lingus.

Ryanair is already the largest shareholder in Aer Lingus with 29.8 percent of the national carrier’s shares. The Irish government has a 25 percent stake in the airline.  >>More..
